Joel Verzosa, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Florida Spine & Pain Specialists in Riverview and Sarasota, Florida.

Joel received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, located in St. Augustine, Florida. After graduation, Joel began his career in outpatient orthopedics.

As a former Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, Joel has extensive experience in exercise dosing and prescription to fit all levels of training and has received training in manual therapy, joint mobilization, myofascial release, soft tissue manipulation as well as joint manipulation to restore normal joint ranges of motion and functional range of motion. These techniques include those specific to the spine in the improvement of the function of the back.

An injury in Joel’s early career, where he was unable to walk for six weeks spending most of that time in a wheel chair, shaped his career significantly. It provided an ability to empathize with both the physical, emotional and social aspects of pain and loss of function and he incorporates this empathy into every facet of his care.

He has also received training in pain science and incorporated high-level exercise techniques into treatment to improve the function and well-being of his patients.

Your First Visit: What You Should Know

We begin by learning as much as possible about your condition to identify the cause of your pain and determine the most effective course of treatment. At your first visit to our Riverview location, you’ll meet with a provider who will review your symptoms, medical history, and any previous imaging or reports. From there, we’ll build a care plan focused on your specific goals and physical needs.

If you’ve had previous treatments, we encourage you to bring documentation such as MRIs, X-rays, or reports. This allows us to get a clearer picture and helps guide your care more effectively.

Patient Intake and History

Before your exam, we’ll ask you to complete a detailed intake form that covers your medical history, pain symptoms, and any prior treatment efforts. This information helps us tailor your care from the very beginning.

Physical Exam and Consultation

Next, one of our providers will conduct a focused physical examination and further evaluate your health history. This step is crucial to understanding your diagnosis and pinpointing the source of your discomfort.

Customized Treatment Plan

Once your evaluation is complete, we’ll recommend a treatment path that best fits your condition. We utilize a range of modern therapies and procedures to alleviate pain and enhance overall function.
